I want to gather some of Atkins’s music for my MP3 collection, but I want his older stuff with buttery-sounding hollow-body guitars and tube amplifiers and I don’t want any Les Paul, because I think Atkins is a better musician and I don’t care for Paul’s electronic trickery. What are some good album titles to amass some of that buttery music?

I am an expert at saying who is Chuck Atkins. (I have heard of him but not really familiar)

I don’t know, but I’d love to benefit from this information as well. I’ve officially reached the age where I bitterly hate all new music, so now I’m working backwards. I can’t listen to only ‘90s country forever.

Only in passing. I can’t speak to the man or his discography, but my father can. He also has an early prototype of his model guitar that Gretsch made for him. It was given to a family friend by Chet and when the family friend died it was given to my father. It’s a really nice guitar. I’ll see if I can find pictures.
I can say that it’s a worthwhile endeavor, his music is great, I just always took it for granted and as a part of the background music of my youth.

Would you consider passing along my query to your dad? I’d be obliged.
